Bacteriology Section performs bacteriological, mycological, parasitological tests of clinical and pathological substances of different animals, including all domestic animals, furry animals, cats, dogs, wild animals, different birds, reptiles, fish and bees.
The analysis is carried out by applying classical and rapid methods for efficient diagnosis and timely treatment of the diseases. Specialists of the department co-operate with private veterinarians in establishing causes of diseases, provide counselling services to animal keepers on different animal diseases. Preventive tests are performed for prevention of spread of diseases.
Besides, the department determines quality of feeding stuffs and their raw materials, and animals semen and carries out the analysis of waste water and sanitary tests of environmental samples.
Specialists of the department co-operate with their colleagues from the State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS) and county SFVS, i.e. submit proposals on improvement of sample taking procedures and expediency of laboratory tests; supervise and analyse work of regional divisions and quality of their tests, provide methodological assistance, organise workshops and practical training for employees of laboratories of the county state food and veterinary services and district diagnostic offices.
Bacteriology Department of the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute is a reference centre of bacterial infectious diseases. It accumulates, systemises, analyses and disseminates information related to bacterial diseases of animals and resistance of micro-organisms.
Well-qualified veterinarians microbiologists and verminologists work in the Bacteriology Section. The section has the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Tests are carried out on the basis of investigation methods recommended by the ISO, International Epizootic Bureau and CRF (Central Reference Laboratories).
The section executes the diagnostic of bacteriological and parasitological veterinary diseases. Agents are searched for in clinical and pathological substances of various animals, birds and fishes. Bacterial sensitivity to antibiotics is defined. With a view to safeguarding animals against epizootia and people from zoonosis, and in order to assess the epizootic condition, state monitoring programme for zoonosis is executed, i.e. programmes for monitoring of salmonella, brucellosis, tuberculosis, campylobacteriosis and verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli are carried out. The programme for monitoring of bacterial diseases of freshwater fishes in the natural water resources is implemented.
Tests of feedstuffs and their raw materials and the state programme on monitoring of feedstuffs and raw material for bacterial contamination are carried out, including the control of imported feedstuffs, raw materials and their supplements.
The section also executes tests of environmental samples, evaluates efficiency of disinfection, i.e. the sanitarian condition of farms, marketplaces and feedstuff production companies.
