Veterinary Risk Assessment Unit



Veterinary Risk Assessment Unit provides scientific and technical assistance in order to ensure feed safety, animal health and animal welfare. The Unit provides risk assessment of undesirable substances in feed, microbiological risk assessment of feed, epidemiological analysis of zoonozes, risk assessment of genetically modified organisms and their products and feed additives, assessment of risks related to feed production, assessment of animal keeping and transportation risks to animal health and animal welfare, epidemiological analysis of animal diseases and zoonozes and zoonotic agents, and assessment of quality, safety and efficacy of veterinary medicinal products and biocides for veterinary use. It analyses data of official control and monitoring programs of feed, animal health and animal welfare and administers register of the veterinary medicinal products and register of biocides for veterinary use of the Lithuanian Republic. It prepares drafts of annual plans for the control and monitoring of feed safety, animal health and animal welfare and monitoring of residues in live animal and animal origin products. The Unit cooperates with national and foreign competent and research institutions, prepares national and international projects in the field of risk assessment. The experts of the Unit participate in EU working groups and steering committees. The Unit closely cooperates with European Food Safety Authority, European Medicines Agency and German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment in the fields of risk assessment of feed safety, animal health and animal welfare.
