Laboratory activities


Sections of the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute Laboratory Department do food research:

-Food microbiology section (Head Ruta Bubuliene); 
-Chemistry section (Head Inga Jarmalaite);
-Radiology section (Head Pranas Drulia);
-Molecular biology and genetically modified organisms section (Head Vaclovas Jurgelevicius);
-Kaunas Territory section (Head Vytautas Pamakstys);
-Siauliai Territory section (Head Valentina Speirokiene); 
-Panevezys Territory section (Head Virginija Krasauskiene);
-Klaipėda Territory section (Head Virginija Grigalauskienė).


These sections do testing of the imported and exported food and raw materials, and selected domestic private delivery of samples of food products and raw materials markets. Food analyzed in the assessment of mycotoxins, the toxicity, pesticide residues, acid and peroxide value, the quantity of heavy metals, veterinary drug residues, food composition, the presence of pests, microbial contamination, genetically modified foods and the presence of other indicators.

-Pathological anatomy and histology section (Head Viktoras Maskaliovas);
-Serology section (Head Jurate Buitkuviene); 
-Virologiy section (Head Ingrida Jacevicienė); 
-Molecular biology and genetically modified organisms section (Head Vaclovas Jurgelevicius); 
-Kaunas Territory section (Head Vytautas Pamakstys); 
-Siauliai Territory section (Head Valentina Speirokiene); 
-Panevezys Territory section (Head Virginija Krasauskiene);
-Klaipėda Territory section (Head Virginija Grigalauskienė).

The section main target is to help SFVS protect animals from contagious diseases. Therefore, is monitoring program of domestic animals, wild fauna, and conducted laboratory researches in animals that were exported or imported, sold in the Republic with suspected disease.
